Well well well, the time has finally come for this long term investor to divest herself of some shares. Say what?! I claim to be a ‘buy and hold’ investor, so what gives? Have I fallen on hard times you ask, or maybe Jonny and I have retired at last? Ah, thankfully, no and unfortunately, no not yet.

I’m having a muck around with one of two of our investments this week. A “re-balance” is the fancy terminology, but I’m taking the opportunity to make sure that we are sticking to our investment plan because I have a tendency to wander off track. Some people are super organised and set a date to do this once a year, I don’t, I’ve just become aware that ‘it’s time’.
I’ve been getting a few emails and comments along the lines of “can you please consider a post about your overall investment portfolio.” My investing strategy is pretty simple and straightforward and I can't help but think that those who work day in day out in the finance space will scoff and laugh at my lack of analysis and strategy. But don’t scoff too hard, because it appears to be working just fine, thank you. Here is how I allocate the money that comes into my life.
I had a nice surprise on the 16th of October. I logged onto PocketSmith and saw that my bank account had an additional $684 in there. When people talk about “passive income” this is what it actually looks like. Money, deposited in my account, without me having to actually do anything except investing in a company and trusting that they will work hard on my behalf.
Since I began investing in index funds I have been thinking of selling my shares in Meridian Energy because they are the only individual shares I own now. But then I procrastinated, then I got busy, then I got a dividend payout and then I actually took a much closer look at them because I realised that this has happened, a steady rise in their share price.
On the 13th of April I received an email telling me I had just received some moolah. Yippee, great timing! At the time I was just packing the car up to head away for five days over Easter, a bit of spending money would be great.
